Take Steps to Move the
Needle on Pay Equity

1. Remember, this is not only about your needs, this issue is about your value, which impacts how others see you and how you see yourself.  To begin the research pertinent to your field, ask three people in your industry their salary range.  Get actual specific salary ranges if you can.
   
   
2. Once you’ve figured out what you’ll be asking for, practice saying the numbers out loud until you can have it come out of your mouth without sticking in your throat.  You should even go so far as to create a script for your ask and find someone to help with mock interviewing.
   
   
3. This one is something to start and continue!  Start by writing down your value list, including the specific skills, talents and deliverables you bring to your work and your workplace.  Use the list to develop your case for the ask you want to make, including what you have done that should warrant a raise.  Remember, if you can’t state the case, nobody will!

If you’re thinking about working with a coach, I say just do it!  It will be worth the investment you make in yourself.
