Meeting of Women

Who do you need supporting your voice?

Kay Fittes, April, 2018

When it comes to career development, and really so many other things in life, you can’t do it alone, and because you can’t do it alone, neither can others.  Once you realize the power of your own voice, look around you and figure out who you need supporting your voice, who will be your greatest advocate, who will you talk to first when you have a ground-breaking idea?

While discovering and embracing your own power is important, the “Power of Us” can be the game-changer.  Men support each other all the time – where do you think the phrase the “good, old boys club” comes from?  If women employ some of the same techniques used by men to work together, support each other and lift while they climb, career support can be transformational.

You + Mentor = Power of US

  1. Identify your own mentoring strengths.  Are you able to show a colleague the ropes at the office?  Do you have the experience to teach someone else the culture and political agendas inherent in the organization?  Can you help introduce a mentee to those she might not have direct access to within your field and/or organization?  Decide what you have to offer as a mentor and share the power!

  2. Find your mentor.  Given the unique challenges to women in the workplace, we all need to have a mentor or mentors.  Imagine climbing the ladder to success, higher pay, another degree and increased visibility and recognition, and there’s someone on the rung above and another woman on the rung below.  We’re all in this together.

  3. Lift while you climb.  Unfortunately, women often struggle with supporting each other.  While some women achieve success, and then want other women to have to “work as hard as they did,” it’s the true leaders that will encourage other women and help pull their chairs to the table.  We absolutely need to lift while we climb, if we’re going to create the “new women’s network.”

Mentoring not enough?  Sometimes mentoring is just the tip of the iceberg.  If you also need professional coaching, please give me a call at (513) 561-4288 or connect with me via email at kay@highheeledsuccess.com.

Client Testimonial - Lisa Desatnik

Lisa Desatnik

I so enjoyed the workshop, “Kick Start Your High-Heeled Success™” on January 20.

For me, Kay’s quote, ‘The reputation you have with yourself is more powerful than any you will ever have with others,’ does an excellent job encapsulating the value of this all-day workshop for me.  It is so easy for many of us within our everyday experiences – our challenges, our achievements, and our relationships – to succumb to self-defeating mindsets and actions.  Through interactive exercises and presentations, Kay inspired us to focus on our strengths with specific action steps.  I left with a lot to think about in terms of strengthening my 6 Ps.

Power - Personal Esteem
Power - Professional Esteem
Power - Verbal Language
Power - Non-Verbal Language
Power - Presentations
Power - Packaging

Thank you Kay, for such a dynamic and thought provoking workshop!
