S – Seek advice from a trusted colleague who knows the players and the climate at your workplace. M – Meet your personal and professional goals by having a plan and a timeline for achieving that plan. A – Assess the damage if you don’t achieve the intended goal, the negative consequences need to be manageable, so think it through all the way. For example, you don’t want to take a risk that could shut you down, close your business or get you fired. R – Rehearse your strategy and approach – know what you’re going to say and be prepared to answer questions that may come your way. T – Take a step, any step that moves you toward taking a risk. Before you know it, the risk-taking will become bolder and more confident.
