Creating Laser Focus

Kay Fittes, March, 2015

March is Women’s History Month, and a good time to think about the historic imprint you will leave on those around you.  What kind of legacy are you leaving behind for the women in your life: daughters, nieces, co-workers, women whom you mentor, or manage?

Involvement in purposeful projects, events and missions that create positive, meaningful outcomes is a very effective way to make your personal mark on history.  Such a goal takes the discipline of moving along things that must get done (tasks, errands, routine work responsibilities), and creating room for these important things that will leave a lasting legacy.  It also requires thoughtful weekly planning, and the skill of executing your ideas and work with efficiency and focus.  Let’s explore this further.  Read More.

Strive for Focusing on Excellence,
Not on Your ‘To Do’ List

  1. Multi-tasking is not a desirable skill.  In certain situations, it’s true that multitasking can be beneficial, but research has shown that extended multitasking splinters your focus and overall productivity.  This is especially true when it comes to media multitasking.  Researchers at Stanford University in 2009 found that multitasking between phones, tablets and laptops slowed down work processes, increased mistakes, and scattered participant attention to multiple focus points.  The overall net effect of was a lack of focus and productivity.  Pick three things for the day, and focus solely on driving them to completion.

  2. People pleasing does not allow for creativity.  Trying to win others over by being immediately available and responsive to them does not allow space for driving your own daily agenda forward, nor does it build your credibility.  By staking your own ground and protecting your time and space, you can begin setting professional boundaries that send a message that your work and projects deserve respect.  Requests and assignments can be handled professionally by responding with a reasonable delivery date.

  3. You have the right to focus on important work.  Setting professional boundaries is not the same as building impenetrable walls around yourself.  It allows the necessary time to complete meaningful work that drives important projects forward – projects that will leave a meaningful legacy not only for yourself, but also for the company you work for, or the clients you serve.

Client Case Study – Janie Smith

Janie Smith

I have attended over a half-dozen of Kay’s workshops and it never ceases to amaze me how much she knows about each of the women that come to her event.  By the way she greets each one; I assume she knows all of them.  One day, I finally asked her, “Kay, how do you know all these women so well?”  Her response shocked me when she said, “I haven’t met most of them, until today!”

I have been to many seminars and I don’t know any speaker who has taken the time to engage and learn more about her audience than Kay.  She greets each one of her participants with an enthusiastic and warm welcoming smile that you immediately feel like you are a part of her family BEFORE the workshop begins!

Throughout her presentation, Kay REALLY listens to your questions, comments and ideas.  Her delivery is serious, lighthearted and provides a fun environment so you can relax and just be you.  As she tells her own personal stories, you know without a doubt, she has been in the same trenches you are trudging through today.

It is her love, compassion and attention to detail that sets Kay s presentations apart from the rest.  It is her ability to laugh at her own mistakes that brings her audiences to laughter and tears.  As she shares from her vast wealth of knowledge, wisdom and successes in helping women move forward; it becomes easy to open your heart and mind to new ideas and goals.

If you have not had the opportunity to participate in one of Kay’s events, you have missed an amazing, dynamic, gracious and humble speaker that deeply cares about taking you, your career, and business to the highest level of success.

Kay’s passion is all about supporting you on your journey.  She reaches out and touches your heart to move towards the goals you want to reach.  Then, she stretches you beyond what you thought you could accomplish.  As you grow into the confident, successful business woman you are meant to be, you can guarantee Kay will be right by your side, cheering you upward to the next level.
